id you know that I’ve spent zero euros on images on my website so far?
And I think you want that too.
It’s bad news for the professional photographers, but nowadays you don’t have to pay any more to be able to place high-quality photos with your articles.
I use different sources to place free images on my website.
And sometimes I pay for it. I’ll explain to you later why this can be a very good investment.
But where can you find qualitatively good images for free for your website?
I’ll give you a list of the best addresses.
Free images for your website:
1. Gratisography
I’ll start right away with one of my favorites, Gratisography. The offer of photos on this site reminds me of Rivella’s advertising slogan ‘a bit strange, but nice’. The photos are sometimes a bit weird, but at the same time also unique. They are very atmospheric photos, sometimes even artistic and of high quality. Moreover, you do not have to mention the source, they are completely free of rights. Recommended!
2. Foter
Where I regularly nose around for a moment, is Foter. A database with thousands of photos that you can use for free for your website. Each photo is accompanied by an indication of the conditions, for example whether you may use the photo for commercial purposes. There is also a lot of rubbish in between, but it is certainly worth using Foter.
3. Pexels.com
Another good photo source, Pexels. Here, too, you can download photos for free. Results from commercial photo stock agencies, such as Shutterstock, are also often shown. In this way, they also try to earn some money from advertisements. Allow them to do so.
4. Canva
Canva is not a stock photo website, but a designer website. You can sign up for free and then have access to thousands of images. You have to pay for some of the photos, but a large part is also completely free of charge. You can use the images for your articles, but Canva offers all kinds of other image formats, such as for a Facebook header, creating a poster and even infographics. A perfect way to download free images for your website.
5. Pixabay
Pixabay is a great address! The images, illustrations, vectors and videos on Pixabay are exempt from copyright. This means that you can download them, distribute them and use them royalty-free for whatever purpose you want. It is not necessary to indicate the source.
6. Freepik.com
Freepik not only lets you download free photos for your website, but also infographics, icons and other types of images, such as an image of an iPhone. Because… it’s also good to not only place photos on your website, but also illustrations and infographics. Please note: the infographic can only be used in certain photo programs, such as Photoshop or Illustrator.
7. Unsplash
If you like beautiful photos, you should definitely use Unsplash. It is not for nothing that many designers make use of it. Unsplash delivers beautiful, stylish free images for your website that you can download for free. From nature photography to industrial photography. Very nice!
8. Hubspot
Hubspot is a renowned internet marketing company and also has a nice free gift for you. You can download a marketing package containing all kinds of images. For example, to promote your website. They offer a variety of free photos, buttons and call to action images. However, you will need to fill in your details before you can download the package, including your phone number.

9. Pablo
Pablo is part of buffer, an online tool to easily share social media via your website. With Pablo, you can easily create free photos and download them to your computer. But this is done by first setting a quote on it. Because that is what the tool is all about. I use it regularly, not only to put photos on the website, but also for my social media. More about making Quotes in my article Super easy quote making for social media.
10. BONUS TIP: Dreamstime
Hey, this is a stock photo agency where you have to pay for photos. It’s true, but I do not want to deny you this tip. Compared to other stock photo agencies, Dreamstime is reasonably advantageous. For 180 euros you can download 25 photos a day for a month. But once a year, often during holidays such as Christmas, they offer a 50 percent discount. And you can download about 750 photos for 90 euros.
Whichever you want.
This is really worth the investment. I did this for example with My travel website Reis om de Wereld, as a result of which suddenly I had a large archive with almost a thousand travel photos. I enjoyed this for years, and still do today. If you don’t want to pay for photos; Dreamstime also gives away free images. But they’re not that beautiful… Here’s the link from the free images for your Dreamstime website.
