I myself use my themes standard buttons.
But you could also download a plugin from the plugin catalogue or purchase a plugin.
It is quite hard to choose the right plugin. I will give you a few options of good and proven plugins.

A free plugin to start with is Shareaholic, which has been downloaded more than 100.000 times.
So a good choice. With a lot of options to change the buttons, colours and appearances.
Easy Social Share Buttons for WordPress
One of my favourite plugins to share social media on the website is Easy Social Share Buttons for WordPress.
I also use this one for some of my customers. It is a paid plugin, but for a relatively small amount you get a lot of options. This plugin is the most diverse of all the ones I have seen.
You can for example place the buttons in many different locations, at the bottom or at the top of the article (or both…), in the sidelines, etc.
You can share articles with more than 40 social media channels.

Simple Share Buttons Adder
Do you want a free and easy to install plugin, than the Simple Share Buttons Adder is a good option.
No frills and easy to work with.
Sumo
This is a plugin where besides sharing articles, you can do a lot more. I have written an article about it with all of the options, because Sumo is a complete marketing tool.
JetPack Share
Jetpack for WordPress also has an option to share articles with social media buttons. If you have already installed the plugin, you only need to activate the function.
There is another function within Jetpack which can be of use. Jetpack Publicize offers the option to automatically publish your blogs or news items.
Better Click to Tweet plugin
Better Click to Tweet is a plugin with which you can add a clickable tweet to your text.
If you click on it, than you can share it.
With the help of a simple shortcode, your selected text will be marked and made tweetable.

Nowadays you can’t just build on SEO. You are not there yet with only an optimized website.
No, you also need to share your article on social media.
The above mentioned plugins can help you with this.
BE AWARE: sometimes the implementation between the plugins and your theme doesn’t go so well. The buttons may not be in the right place and will give an error notification.
But this off course can happen with every plugin you install.
Most of the time it all goes well…
Make sure that you don’t add too many social media buttons. The choice for the reader to share your article will only become more difficult.
